Posting food content on social media is one of the best ways to get the word out to people about your restaurant. We’ve personally found a ton of delicious restaurants that we otherwise would’ve never found through social media. But part of what gets your attention when you’re scrolling is how the video is shot! We’ve got some tips we’ve collected over the years of shooting social media food content for restaurants here in Los Angeles.
What is one simple tip when shooting food videos on an iPhone or cinema camera?
Believe it or not, the first tip is as simple as making sure your lens is clean! Whether it’s a professional cinema camera or an iPhone, make sure to clean any smudges off the lens for the clearest videos. We can’t even count the amount of times we’ve seen someone post a video on social media with a dirty lens, making it look blurry!
Does color grading or color correction matter when shooting food videos?
The second tip is to make sure the colors are accurate and appetizing! We’ve seen time and time again that the colors in videos posted are flat, ungraded, unsaturated, or just color graded plain wrong. You want to make sure your videos look appetizing to the viewer! The goal is to make their mouth water, not make them feel like the food is sterile or inedible.
What type of shots should I get when shooting food videography?
Last but not least, make sure to get that action shot! If it’s a sandwich, make sure to get that shot of it cut in half showing. If it’s a french dip sandwich, make sure to get a good dipping shot. You have to make sure to get the whole experience of the dish, to make sure the viewer is craving this by the time their done watching! It also makes the video more interesting, as opposed to just having the food on the dish looking all sad and lonely.
These are just a few of the tips we got up our sleeves, but if you need help shooting these don’t hesitate to hit us up!
